Voluntary

Why become a volunteer?

The Syddansk Studenterråd would be nothing without its many volunteers, who each day perform a fantastic amount of work in our various projects and committees.

As a volunteer at the Syddansk Studenterråd, you build a strong network that can be used both professionally and socially. You make connections that extend far beyond your studies, and you have the opportunity to develop your skills and add something valuable to your CV.

What makes us different?

Our unique opportunities

Semester start party

It takes more than 100 volunteers to hold Denmark’s largest semester kickoff party. That’s why we are always looking for volunteers who are willing to participate. We are looking for both enthusiasts who are passionate about event planning and who are willing to put in many hours of work, as well as people who just want to help on the day of the event. This includes tasks such as bartender, communication, HR, warehouse assistant, host, setup of the venue, atmosphere, wardrobe, and much more.

Social activities

As volunteers at the South Danish Student Council, you have access to several social events. Among other things, we have our very own internal Christmas party and an awards show called the SDS Awards, where we celebrate the students who have made extraordinary contributions in the past year. In addition, we have a summer party, we hold general meetings followed by a reception for the incoming and outgoing board, and as part of the organizing groups for the Semester Start Party, you can Battle of The Institutes look forward to great parties and events exclusively for them and the participating volunteers. The team behind all these events are our volunteers; whether they are connected to SSF or Insti, they come through our political or association network or just want to be part of the association because it’s fun. Therefore, you can also become a volunteer in SDS if you would like to help plan and participate in these internal events, as well as make a difference for your fellow students on University of Southern Denmark.

Political activities

We are always looking for volunteers who are interested in education policy and who want to help fight for students’ rights both locally at SDU and nationally in collaboration with the Danish Students’ Union (DSF). Syddanske Studerende works with student politics in the study committees, academic council university councils, the university board, and at the municipal level. At the national level, we participate in the DSF’s Policy Conference, where we discuss students’ views on political issues such as student loans, housing, quality of education, internationalization, funding, the study environment, the climate, and much more.

Tinderbox

Through our collaboration with Tinderbox, we are helping to ensure that students can attend the festival for free in exchange for volunteering. Therefore, we are seeking volunteers for Tinderbox. We will open registration in the spring. Keep an eye on our home page and Facebook page for more information.

Institute rivalry

It also takes a lot of volunteers to plan, set up, and execute Battle of The Institutes. It takes a group of organizers who, among other things, take care of rules, the point system, atmosphere planning, agreements, and communication. It takes managers from various institutions. It takes volunteers for setup and being in the bars. It takes game masters and referees to keep track of and conduct the various competitions. So there are many dedicated students behind the execution of Battle of The Institutes.

Student Fair

We hold a study start fair every semester in September called the Student Fair. Traditionally, it takes place in the small canteen (old Friday bar) at SDU. A lot of relevant associations, SDU departments and local businesses want to reach out to students. So, if you’d like to switch banks, join an association like the Skiklubben, become a volunteer in the Friday bar, or just want a tote bag and some bolsheviks, then come by the Student Fair. You can become a volunteer at Syddanske Studerende and help run the Student Fair, as well as stand in our booth and tell other students about our work.

Don't take it from us

'Being active in the SDS broadens your horizons. Us law students are not exactly known for being inclusive, but through – Battle of The Institutes and the collaboration in the association in general – I have been reminded of how rewarding a strong network can be. These pink and blue-striped people have become my second family.'
Stina Starup
'I am part of SDS because it gives me the opportunity to make a difference for my fellow students. It is important that we as students are heard in the various decisions that affect our student life. In addition to the student politics, Syddanske Studerende is the perfect place to meet people from all sorts of studies across all the faculties.'
Marius Folden Pedersen
”I’m part of the SDS because I think it’s really important that the students have as good a life as possible. I think we’re in a pretty unique situation at SDU, where the students are listened to quite a lot, and it’s great to be able to contribute to that. Besides that, I’ve made some really good friends across different study fields and had some great experiences.”
